An empirical comparison of different implicit measures to predict consumer choice

چکیده
While past research has found that implicit measures are good predictors of affectively driven, but not cognitively driven, behavior it has not yet been tested which implicit measures best predict behavior. By implementing a consumer context, in the present experiment, we assessed two explicit measures (i.e. self-reported habit and tastiness) and three implicit measures (i.e. manikin task, affective priming, ID-EAST) in order to test the predictive validity of affectively versus cognitively driven choices. The results indicate that irrespective of whether participants chose affectively or cognitively, both explicit measures, but not the implicit measures, predicted consumer choice very strongly. Likewise, when comparing the predictive validity among all measures, the explicit measures were the best predictors of consumer choice. Theoretical implications and limitations of the study are discussed.

Implicit Food Preference -1 - Running Heading: Implicit Food Preference
One of the issues concerning the application of implicit measures like the IAT is whether they can be successfully applied to consumer choices. Four studies (N=399) tested the predictive and incremental validity of an IAT towards fruits versus snacks on the spontaneous choice of a fruit or a snack at the end of the experimental session. Specifically, additive and interactive patterns to predict...
متن کاملAn Empirical Comparison of Distance Measures for Multivariate Time Series Clustering
Multivariate time series (MTS) data are ubiquitous in science and daily life, and how to measure their similarity is a core part of MTS analyzing process. Many of the research efforts in this context have focused on proposing novel similarity measures for the underlying data. However, with the countless techniques to estimate similarity between MTS, this field suffers from a lack of comparative...
متن کاملMeasuring the Effectiveness of Explicit and Implicit Instruction through Explicit and Implicit Measures
Many studies have examined the effect of different approaches to teaching grammar including explicit and implicit instruction. However, research in this area is limited in a number of respects. One such limitation pertains to the issue of construct validity of the measures, i.e. the knowledge developed through implicit instruction has been measured through instruments which favor th...
متن کاملUsing Hedonic Prices to Estimate Quality Changes concerning Iranian Automobile Market
Abstract This paper sketches a model of product differentiation according to the hedonic hypothesis that is based on the theory of consumer behavior of Lancaster (1971). Lancaster suggested that utility is derived from the characteristics of the good and not the good itself. Thus, from the perception of the consumer, every characteristic has a price. This is the hedonic (or implicit) price. We ...

An intelligent method based on adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for identifying Manning’s roughness coefficients in modeling of alluvial river is presented. The procedure for selecting values of Manning n is subjective and requires judgment and skill which are developed primarily through experience. During practical applications, researchers often find that a correct choice of the ...
